WOOL IN GARDENING

Wool has lots of wonderful uses in the garden

Wool can be used 100% in its natural form, totally unprocessed.

When laid above or below ground, it can help protect the soil and therefore the plants growing in the soil.

It helps protect plants against frost, helps retain moisture when dry and as it works like a sponge it gives steady hydration when it is very wet, avoiding drowning the plants.

Wool also helps suppress weeds and deter pests.

As wool is biodegradable it will slowly break down and release nutrients in the process.

Wool can also be mixed with other things to form a compost or mulch.  It can be used as an environmentally friendly alternative to peat.

Wool in its natural form can also be used to line hanging baskets.

You can also buy processed wool gardening products such as  hanging basket liners, wool pellets, sheets of gardening felt, which make the use of wool in your garden more convenient.
